Abstract

Navicular stress fractures are common in athletes engaged in sports activities that principally require motions such as running and jumping. Foot pain may present without a particular traumatic injury and tenderness over the N spot, the proximal dorsal portion of the navicular, may be elicited. Tenderness over the N spot should raise clinical suspicion of a navicular stress fracture. The first line of approach to treat navicular stress fractures is a surgical one, but recent metaanalyses have found that conservative treatment rather than surgical treatment in athletes have been shown to be more beneficial. In this report, we reviewed the literature to examine whether surgical treatment is more effective than conservative treatment to treat navicular stress fractures.
